Abstrak

This study aims to describe violations of the principle of cooperation in the 2024 presidential debate of the Republic of Indonesia. In this study, the researcher used a descriptive-qualitative research design. The subject of this study was the speech in the 2024 presidential debate of the Republic of Indonesia using Grice's theory of cooperation. Data collection used the listening method and note-taking technique. The results of this study indicate violations of the principle of cooperation, namely: (1) maxim of quantity, (2) maxim of quality, (3) relationship/relevance, and (4) method/action. The data found in this study amounted to 21 data on violations of the maxim of cooperation found. The most violations of maxims are the maxim of implementation with a total of 7 data, and then the maxim of relevance with a total of 6 data. Next is the maxim of quality with a total of 5 data and the maxim of quality with a total of 3 data. The learning implications are in the negotiation text, with the principle of cooperation in the negotiation text, students can minimize violations of the principle of cooperation when negotiating. In this study, the violation of the principle of cooperation that often appears is the maxim of implementation. This can occur due to deliberate factors in the presidential debate process.
